Hirelings date back to 2e, & the 5e Services Table says you can hire skilled ones for 2 gold per day.  Well now you can play them in Shard.

The Hireling Class is mainly intended to create NPCs or Companions that won't steal the spotlight from your players, fill the gap that is needed, & have enough features & HP to survive.  Perfect for solo or two player games.

So the next time your party needs an extra Blade or Shield for the front line, a Specialist for a particular task, or a caster for problems that need magical solutions, consider creating a Hireling for your party to hire.
